History Trail

The girls ascend the first winding staircase towards the belfry

Not the place for those who are afraid of heights

Coming out from the crypt and heading up

The girls sueeze into the chamber at the base of the spire, far above the cathedral's ceiling

Posing on the old Cathedra

The girls investigate the Republican statue outside the courthouse.

The old Methodist church

The belltower, all that remains, of Cavan Abbey

The girls read about Irish hero Owen Roe O'Neill, purportedly buried on the abbey grounds

Looking up the bell tower which has survived being burned three times;by a mad monk, a jealous O'Reilly clanswoman and the English

The spooky half-light of the crypt
On Thursday 18th, the girls went on a History Trail of Cavan Town to explore sights of historic detail in the locality. The girls have been compiling a huge amount of information on Cavan's history of late and this walk was the culmination of over a fortnight of hard work.Much thanks to Father Ultan who always gives up his time to show us around the cathedral from crypt to belfry.

Here's some scary monsters and super creeps that the girls made for Hallowe'en using newspaper, wall paper paste, balloons and paint. Very messy but great fun and very effective I think you'll agree.

The Story of the Healing Waters

To further our understanding of Native American culture we read a story which told of the importance of nature to their view of the world and their survival. Story was used by the Native Americans (much like the Ancient Irish) to pass on knowledge of the world and keep traditions alive. It was an integral part of keeping their culture passed on from generation to generation, as again like our Gaelic ancestors, they had no form of writing.
